Mr. Aminu Dahiru, the Assistant Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, Lagos, declared on Tuesday that the zone generated N698 billion as income from January to October.

Mr. Dahiru told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone conversation that the customs group in the zone would operate tirelessly to reach the N887 billion mark set by the headquarters.

He said the current income is an increase—more than the N593 billion raised over the same period in 2016.

Furthermore, Mr. Dahiru showed his determination that the projected zonal income mark set by the headquarters would be accomplished.

Mr. Dahiru´s words ”So far, so good, as we have achieved 78.72 per cent of the revenue figure,” he said.

“This is made possible because of the commitment of the personnel to duty and concrete measures taken to ensure diligence in collecting revenue because of the government“.

However, the assistant comptroller general added that the zone was passionate and persistent in implementing the monetary policies of the Federal Government to heighten the national economy.

According to him, the zone has pointed approaches

“toward the implementation of the process, knowing full well that the dare-devil smugglers can be brutal and deadly in their operations.”.

Hence, ACG Dahiru, however, said the zone was battle-ready and equal to discharging its constitutional responsibilities diligently.

Noteworthy, he explained that ”facilitating legitimate trade is one of the core mandates of the service, and we are exploring all legitimate means to improve the system to the benefit of the country.”.

In addition, he solicited the support of stakeholders, importers, exporters, and clearing agents, including traditional and religious leaders, in sensitizing communities to the negative effects of smuggling on the nation’s economy.

Zone A comprised FOU ‘A’ Ikeja, Lagos Industrial Command, Festac; and other formations in Lagos State, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti Area Commands.
